My Fall Go-To

“Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.”—Alexander Wang

My favorite season for fashion is fall; a time for boots, jeans, and scarves. Leather and plaid are really making a comeback this year, so of course my go-to outfit of the season incorporates both, while also pulling a couple fall classics. Living in the south the start of fall is all about layers because as it begins to cool down the temperatures fluctuate drastically going as low as 50 but up to the 80's. The look I find myself reaching for is simple, yet touches the top trends of the year.

I start off with a plain v-neck or tank top (typically white) and layer that with a long plaid shirt. I rock a large Tommy Hilfiger button up flannel that I took from a guy friend a couple years back. I specified long because I like to wear leggings with this outfit, but skinny jeans do the trick when I wear one of my own plaid shirts that reach only to my waistline. Military inspired boots and coat finish off this grudge look for me. I bought (splurged) on a military style jacket from Off Saks, it has leather sleeves of course! Combat boots are always a fall go-to for me, but almost any boot would finish this look perfectly.

Here are a few examples of what other shoes you can't go wrong with when you don't have combat boots. When going for something girlier, I pair a bright, feminine plaid button down with my Minnetonka Calf Hi 3-layer fringe boots (89.95), another fabulous fall go-to shoe. My worn in converse are always an easy slip on, I'll cuff my skinny jeans a couple inches or wear boyfriend jeans (with a fitted plaid shirt to avoid wearing all baggy clothes!!). On a rainy day, this look is awesome with some rain boots. I have a pair of original tall graphite Hunter rain boots ($140) I scored for my birthday last year and I'm obsessed with them, but they're a bit pricey.. rain boots are super easy to find cheaper if you do a little digging.

You'll generally find me wearing this outfit with minimum (gold) jewelry: studded earrings and a simple chain necklace. Also, minimum makeup because I'll probably throw my glasses on anyway. Maybe accessorize with a light scarf depending on the time of day. This look, to me, is a quick grab for a last minute lunch date or running some errands.

The pieces are very interchangeable, so I foresee myself following these guidelines as a go-to all fall. I suggest trading the flannel out for a cardigan or oversized sweater, or ditching the pants and rocking a high waisted leather skirt with your plaid tucked in for a night look (go ahead and finish with a smokey eye).
Tip: If you're looking for an oversized, cozy flannel and have no generous males around, hit your local thrift store!

Every article of clothing I've offered includes something pricey, something relatively inexpensive, and something for a damn good price. Feel free to let me know what you think of my first post by leaving comments below. I'm still working on my blog as a whole and finding my voice, bear with me.. I wanted to start simple!

a love story

"Men will come and go, but a good outfit will always be there." -My mother

My first love will always be fashion. There is just something about buying the perfect outfit that seems to dull any kind of pain, I am a firm believer in retail therapy.

a little about myself
I am just a southern college student getting by on a part-time retail job, dreaming of bigger things. My major is currently marketing with hopes of joining the cutthroat fashion industry, but I am still finding my place. I shop on a budget, a very, very sad budget, but I do my best. I wouldn't necessarily define my style except to say it fits whatever mood I am in.

why am i here
I've created this blog to pass along my knowledge of shopping on a budget, I love finding (almost) replicas of designer clothes. I'm here to help you find ways spice up the old pieces in your closet, as well providing make-up and hair tips every once in awhile. And most importantly I'm here for you, I'm here to help your every fashion need. I'm excited to get down to business and I promise you will love my site once I get it going, as long as you promise your loyalty. I have a true passion for fashion (why does that have to rhyme?!) and I'm doing this for fun, success story or not this blog is to put a little piece of me out in the world and if I help one persons confidence then that's enough for me.
